Gavin brings a broad set of knowledge and diverse skill set from 20 years of experience in marine science research and field operations. He holds a B.A. in Marine Science with a minor in Psychology from the University of San Diego.
Gavin's career began at the U.S. Navy Marine Mammal Program in San Diego, where he trained dolphins for open-water mine-hunting missions and deployments. He continued his work at the National Marine Mammal Foundation (NMMF), supporting numerous bioacoustic research projects utilizing innovative operant conditioning techniques.
For over a decade, he has been a valuable member of the NMMF Conservation Biology Field Team, conducting catch-and-release dolphin population health assessments along the Gulf of Mexico. Additionally, Gavin’s field experience includes a pioneering study on minke whale hearing in Norway.
Most recently, his SCUBA experience includes conducting search and recovery missions for Mk 18 UUV operations in San Diego.
Gavin comes to MTS seeking to utilize his expertise and apply it to new challenges and learning opportunities. He enjoys spending his free time at the gym, cooking, or outdoors while listening to his favorite music and podcasts.
