Dan McCoy

Sr. Scientist and Sr. Project Manager

Dan McCoy graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Science in 1991. He then went on to earn his Master’s degree in Zoological Science at Louisiana State University in 1996, studying the effects of oil contamination on intertidal organisms. Since moving to California in 1998, Mr. McCoy’s work experience has focused on monitoring and assessing potential impacts to marine and coastal habitats in Southern California and in recent years permitting/ mitigating potential impacts to marine mammals and special status species in Alaska. He is experienced in developing and implementing marine monitoring programs, leading field sampling efforts, writing monitoring plans, conducting biological monitoring surveys, and managing projects. He has worked in various locations throughout the country, including coastal bays, harbors and inlets in Alaska, Washington, Louisiana, and Alabama, as well as along several major rivers such as the Mississippi River in Minnesota and Iowa and the Tennessee River in Alabama. Following the 2010 Deep Water Horizon oil spill, he assisted the National Park Service in conducting a 3-year Natural Resource Damage Assessment study in Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve to assess damage to submerged aquatic vegetation resulting from the spill response. In his spare time, Dan enjoys fishing, skiing, traveling, spending time with friends and family, and going to the beach with his dog, Charlie.
