Rafael brings over five years of experience as a professional diving instructor to his new role as a Marine Technician. A passionate outdoor enthusiast and long-time member of the Lake Tahoe community, Rafael is excited to apply his in-water expertise to the scientific field, supporting research and conservation efforts in the lake he calls home.
Rafael’s background in dive safety, training, and underwater navigation brings a unique and valuable perspective to the MTS team. His transition from recreational diving to scientific support work is fueled by a deep appreciation for Tahoe’s natural ecosystems and a desire to contribute to their protection.
Outside of work, you’ll find Rafael making the most of every season—backpacking deep into the Sierra, skiing Tahoe’s legendary backcountry slopes, climbing local granite, or diving just for fun. His commitment to the environment and connection to the local landscape make him a perfect fit for MTS’s mission-driven work.
