Kian Bagheri has a bachelor's degree in environmental engineering from San Diego State University and is currently a PhD candidate in a joint program between UC San Diego and San Diego State University. His research focuses on enhancing stormwater management practices to protect aquatic ecosystems, combining fieldwork with computational methods to address urban and environmental water quality challenges.
Kian has gained a diverse range of experience in environmental monitoring and ecosystem assessment. At the Tahoe Environmental Research Center, he supported diving surveys along Lake Tahoe’s eastern shore, assisting with studies on the distribution of invasive Asian clams. His responsibilities included collecting water quality samples from research vessels, managing scientific instruments, and operating small watercraft for environmental monitoring, all contributing valuable data for assessing lake health.
At Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Kian contributed to marine bioacoustics research by deploying hydrophone arrays in the La Jolla Marine Protected Area, helping gather bioacoustic data on fish populations and enhancing understanding of marine biodiversity in protected areas.
In his free time, Kian enjoys hiking and exploring new cultures and places, interests that deepen his commitment to environmental conservation.
