Born and raised in San Francisco, California, Michael began his educational journey by studying drafting in high school, architecture at City College of San Francisco, and urban planning at UC Berkeley. After graduating, he realized that he would rather work outdoors, with hammer and nails in hand, than work behind a desk.
Michael then joined the Carpenters Union, where he learned the trade and built projects across Northern California. Eventually, he was placed in charge of the local union in South Lake Tahoe. In his role as a labor representative, Michael had the privilege of serving on various community-based boards and organizations, including committees at the Lake Tahoe Unified School District, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA), the City Planning Commission with the City of South Lake Tahoe, and the Federal Advisory Committee at the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit. In these capacities, Michael enjoyed the opportunity to be involved in his community and to help improve and enhance our built environment as a small part of a collaborative effort.
After retiring and completing many long-deferred personal projects, Mike found himself looking for something more and searching for new creative outlets. He has enjoyed his time at MTS, being part of a team again and doing important work to protect and enhance our natural environment. He finds it gratifying to be part of a team that implements projects on the ground (and underwater), projects that were only studies, proposals, or line items on paper in his former life. Michael lives in South Lake Tahoe with his wife Lisa and their two Karelian Bear Dogs, Otso and Meilikki. He enjoys hiking, fishing, camping, sailing, and off-roading.
