Monique has over ten years of experience working with MTS to support marine and aquatic projects. She is a PADI IDC Staff Instructor with thousands of logged dives both recreationally and professionally. She is actively involved with dive safety procedures, current training, and a variety of duties relating to marine and aquatic surveys and systems. Her project field and management experience includes electrofishing, benthic and sediment sampling, water sampling, invasive species monitoring, invasive species management, focused species and habitat surveys, infrastructure inspection and project management. She has worked extensively with control efforts of Eurasian watermilfoil, Curly-leaf pondweed, Asian clam (Corbicula fluminea) and other aquatic invasive species in and around Lake Tahoe. As a certified rebreather diver, she assists in preparations and dives related to infrastructure inspections as well as deep scientific dives along the West Coast, Alaska and in Lake Tahoe.
Monique has collaborated with research scientists and volunteered internationally in efforts to educate and protect endangered sea turtle species and marine ecosystems. These efforts included land surveys for known sea turtle breeding and nesting grounds, collection and relocation of threatened nests, monitoring and release of new hatchlings, and collecting data for scientific publication. She has an AAS in Engineering from Lewis Clark State College and received her Bachelor’s degree from Oregon State University. She is currently pursuing an MFA in Photography from the Academy of Art University in her spare time. She is also a licensed and certified Drone Pilot.
Monique recently co-founded a not-for-profit organization, Below the Blue. Below the Blue highlights her passion for aquatic systems. The organization focuses on the environmental conservation of Lakes, Rivers and Seas through the removal of foreign debris, public education relative to this pollution, and the collection of data to help facilitate policy change and enforcement. She also brings awareness to these issues with action, outreach, and a unique perspective through the lens of her camera.
